History of the Northvale Netball Club.

1975-

The Northvale Netball Club was formed in 1975 from a small community of players from the Springvale and Mulgrave areas consisting of just 38 players.

In 2008, Northvale was represented by 163 players from 150 families in our Saturday competition representing Northvale in the Waverley City Netball Association located at Waverley Netball Centre. We are also represented at night with 55 players playing under Northvale in the Waverley Night Netball Association.

The original Northvale emblem of a swan holding all sporting equipment was to represent the four sports being Netball, Football, Junior and Senior Cricket and Softball. Afterwanting a liquor licensing agreement, the football club became an incorporated body of their own; however, they still proudly represent Northvale in the red and white with the swan emblem in the Waverley Junior Football Association. Senior cricket amalgamated with the Mulgrave Country Cricket Club due to numbers and as of January 2007 the Softball Club also decided to also incorporate on their own, with a home base at Waverley.

Therefore in January 2007 the Northvale Netball Club became incorporate body on their own as the Northvale Junior Sports Club was closed at the end of 2006. Our home ground remains at Mackie Road in Mulgrave with the club rooms proudly displaying the club's history of debutante balls, elite sporting players who once represented Northvale, Premiership team photos, flags presented to the club over many years and old trophies presented through out the club's history.

As the Northvale Junior Sports Club emblem is of a Swan all teams were originally named after birds in tradition. However our second Open team is named S.P's, after a former player, Susan Puhotoua, who died tragically in 1990. After her death the family donated a trophy in her memory and the club decided to honor her and name her former playing team S.P's. Our top of team is named Swans as per the original emblem of a swan.

In January 2007, Northvale lost there first life member, Bob Cousins. Bob had been around the club for years, almost since it began in 1975. He coached for the club for many years, mainly concentrating on juniors. He was a statistics man and wrote the club's first history book. In his Honor the committee nominated a new award; The Bob Cousins Memorial Trophy. It was agreed this award is to be presented to a 15 & under player, for the further development of their netball skills to the total value of $100.
